About John Parr
Founder & Creator of The Emotional Assertiveness Model™

John has been a leading figure in the field of emotional intelligence and psychotherapy for over 40 years. His career began in the Royal Navy as an electronics engineer before transitioning into more people-focused roles in the 1970s.
Over the years, John has managed a rehabilitation centre for substance abusers, worked as a probation officer, and served as an HR manager in a multinational company. Since 1988, he has run his own consultancy, specialising in management and training solutions for multinational organisations, with a strong focus on stress management, emotional intelligence, and workplace relationships.
In the early 1990s, John identified a need for practical application of emotional intelligence and centred his master’s degree on the topic of applied emotional intelligence. This led to the creation of The Emotional Assertiveness Model™, a unique approach to fostering healthy, respectful, and productive relationships in both personal and professional settings. Today, John certifies professionals to present or coach using his model and continues to train individuals in leading emotionally balanced lives.
John has also held several notable leadership positions in the field of Transactional Analysis, including Past Chair of the UK TA Association, Past President of the European Transactional Analysis Association, and Past Vice-President of the International TA Association. His international experience includes six years in Romania, where he successfully managed his consultancy and helped establish a thriving Transactional Analysis community.
In addition to his work in Emotional Assertiveness®, John is the author of a number of books:
